Siding Contractor Estimate Checklist

Name materials, profiles and finishes.
Check preparation, repairs and accessories.
Agree changes, timing and warranties.
A useful siding estimate tells you what will be installed, what preparation is included and how unexpected repairs will be handled. Use this checklist when comparing contractors for a US home siding project.
Ask for a clear scope of work
- Exact siding product, manufacturer, profile, colour and finish.
- Measured siding area and how openings and waste are treated.
- Removal and disposal of existing siding, or a clear explanation of any proposed installation over it.
- Wall preparation, water-resistive barrier, flashing and treatment of windows, doors and penetrations.
- Trim, corners, starter strips and other accessories included in the price.
- Whether soffits, fascia, gutters, painting or insulation are included or excluded.
Clarify repairs and extra charges
Hidden wall damage may only become visible after old siding is removed. Ask how repairs will be priced, who approves additional work and whether the estimate contains an allowance. Request written approval of changes before work proceeds.
Check the installation and warranty details
Ask which manufacturer installation instructions the contractor will follow. Separate the product warranty from the contractor’s workmanship warranty, and ask what each covers, how long it lasts and how a claim is made. Verify any claimed credentials directly with the issuing organisation.
Agree on practical arrangements
- Expected start date, duration and handling of weather delays.
- Protection of landscaping, windows and outdoor fixtures.
- Daily cleanup, debris removal and a final walkthrough.
- Payment schedule and the process for resolving defects.
- Responsibility for any permits and inspections required locally.
Compare the same project
The lowest total may exclude work another contractor has included. Put each estimate side by side and reconcile differences in product, preparation, repairs, accessories and warranties before deciding.
